Tunbridgeware clock
Tunbridge clock
Dimensions:@900 mm high
Restoration: None by us yet. Priced as found, but overall in quite good condition. The item benefits from nominal restoration, mostly for a new bottom scroll and minor detail to turned elements(which we think would benefit being replaced in a more vibrant and contrasting colour timber.... available as commission. NB. if we replace missing tesserae/inlays/veneer, we do so with real wood tesserae from our vast stocks of Tunbridge micro mosaic spares and veneer. We never use wax/paste fillers or paint faux inlays like some of the less scrupulous restorers we have come across.
If an item was originally french polished we will nearly always re-spray & polish with a hardwearing lacquer (of good interface) which is far superior in technical attributes and quality of finish than French polish ever will be or ever was. We tend to use matt or satin sheen(as per customer preference) in order to reduce visual glare hot spots. This helps the beauty of wood and the design of any piece to be much more obvious and visually un-interrupted as opposed to that with higher gloss sheens.
Origin: 19th century
Extras(please contact the office): Full restoration with satin or matt respray and polish with hardwearing uv and oxidising resistant lacquer to help preserve colours. Potentially change turned elements and add bottom scroll which was part of the original design
