Chinese Wang mu horses fret carved panel
The Eight Horses of Wang Mu are a group of horses that pulled the chariot of King Mu of the Zhou Dynasty. The horses are a symbol of the emperor's journeys and are often depicted in art. The legend is that these horses pulled his chariot into the heavens where he hooked up with his lover, the goddess Xi WangMu. There in the heavens, he could taste the peaches of immortality. Each horse was known for its own special ability. One of the horses could gallop without touching the ground.
